Should the threshold for the Community♦-raised flag "20+ comments" be lowered from 20 to, for example, 10?

My probably unpopular view is that long comment threads are often useful. I'm a moderator on another SE site and I'll convert comment chains to chat only if they get ugly - as happens. My fellow mods ...

Bias against religion

I am a Christian, and of course, it is enough for me to believe something simply because God said so. Many things in the Bible I believe without any evidence beyond God's own word. For example, it's ...

Suggestions of what to do if we have concerns about a user's mental health?

I don't think that sites like this have any good way of handling genuine mental health issues. I'm guessing that just like anywhere else in our relations, we say to the person that they should seek ...

Can communal moderation (closing, downvoting) in principle support the fair rights of the minority?

As you may have seen, I am no fan of democracy but here I think you are misdiagnosing the issue: it is not democracy that is malfunctioning here. On the contrary it is the fact that some processes are ...

Can communal moderation (closing, downvoting) in principle support the fair rights of the minority?

The StackExchange approach to moderation includes: community/user voting (both for score, and for closure/reopening) moderator voting (which is often determinative) moderator responses to flags (...

Is philosophy stack exchange Philosophy 101, or is it a place for ideas?

This site is not meant to "develop ideas" or for debate. The entire StackExchange format is for clear, singular questions, with responses in the form of answers. Even where certain topics ...

Do we want to collect the best questions and answers at the end of each quarter?

I like the idea; I’ll post some stuff I’ve come across that I think is high-quality here for now. Kant, Language, and Thought Is Heideggerian “Being” like the instantiation of a class into an object?

Suggestions of what to do if we have concerns about a user's mental health?

In my opinion, it’s generally not our business. We wouldn’t take responsibility for the personal lives of the site users unless it’s something that’s a direct consequence of their site experience (i.e....

How should I frame a question about the soundness of a particular objection to an argument?

Please be sure to add enough context: what assumptions you’re working with, and at least some of the considerations that make you think the argument fails. This will give you better answers

How should I frame a question about the soundness of a particular objection to an argument?

There are lots of those types of questions if you search around. The format “is this argument flawed” or anything similar usually doesn’t get downvoted or closed, it’s a recurrent question type.
