The 2018 Community Moderator Election is now underway!

Community moderator elections have three phases:

  1. Nomination phase
  2. Primary phase
  3. Election phase

Most elections take between two and three weeks, but this depends on how many candidates there are.

Is it self nomination only or can we nominate other users?

I believe it's only by self nomination.

That is correct. Nominating others happens, as far as I know, only on beta sites to select the pro tempore moderators. But there, these users confirm (or reject) their candidacy, and nothing prevents you from pinging someone you find suitable, of course.
